Tally connection alerts and notifications

Get told when a TallyPrime company goes offline, an entry is turned down or an import finishes, in the app or by email, and choose what reaches you.

Updated 29 October 2026

Balancely tells you when something needs your attention: a company that cannot be reached, an entry TallyPrime did not accept, an import that has finished. Notifications appear under the bell in the app, and some also come by email. You choose which kinds reach you, and where.

Which events notify you

Notifications are grouped into kinds. Each kind goes to the people it concerns, never to the person who caused it, except for results of work they started and their own security.

KindWhat you hear aboutWho hears
Companies and connectorA company is connected, cannot be reached (with the reason: connector not running, TallyPrime not open, or the company not open), or is back. A company renamed, disconnected or removed.Connected, offline and back: everyone who can see that company. Renamed and removed: the owner and admins.
Entries and importsAn entry TallyPrime did not accept. An import finished, with how many were posted, skipped as already in TallyPrime, or need a fix. Purchase bills read, and how many need a look.A turned-down entry: the person who sent it. Imports and bills: the person who started them, plus the owner and admins.
TeamInvites sent, people joining, leaving or removed, ownership transferred, and two-factor sign-in becoming required. The owner and admins. Ownership and the two-factor rule: everyone. A change to your own role or companies: you.
Plan and billing80% and 100% of the month’s entries used. Plan changes, payments received or failed, a renewal coming up, a subscription cancelled.Usage: the owner and admins. Everything else: the owner.
Sign-in and securityA sign-in from a browser and address not seen in the last 30 days. Password changed or reset, two-factor sign-in on or off, a recovery code used, devices signed out.Only you.
Setup callsA call you booked with us, a cancellation, and reminders before it starts.Only you.

Owners and admins also have a kind for apps connected to the account. It is shown in the app only.

The same thing happening again within a day updates the one notification and marks it unread again, rather than filling the list. On the notifications page, hover the count to see how many times it happened.

In the app and by email

Everything above appears in the app. Email is sent only for some of it, and always to the address you sign in with.

KindEmail sent
Companies and connectorTo the owner, when a company cannot be reached. At most once every six hours for the same company.
Entries and importsNever. These are in the app only.
TeamWhen someone joins (to the owner and admins), and to a person whose role or companies change, or who is removed.
Plan and billingTo the owner, at 80% and 100% of the month’s entries, and when a payment fails. On the Firm plan there is no 80% notice: you hear once when you pass the fair-use level, and nothing is blocked.
Sign-in and securityA sign-in from a new browser or address.
Setup callsWhen you book or cancel a call.

Urgent items, such as a company that cannot be reached, also pop up on screen while you are using Balancely.

How to choose what reaches you

  1. 1

Open Settings and choose the Notifications tab, or choose the settings button at the top of the bell.

  2. 2

Find the kind under Notify me about.

  3. 3

Turn the In app or Email switch on or off. It saves at once.

A dash in the Email column means we never email about that kind. Your choices are your own: they do not change what anyone else on the team receives.

What is always sent

  • Sign-in and security stays on, and its switches are locked. You always hear about a new sign-in, in the app and by email, and about a password or two-factor change in the app.

  • A failed payment always reaches the owner, in the app and by email, even with Plan and billing turned off.

Read, mark and archive

From the bell

  • The bell shows how many are unread. Opening it marks nothing as read.

  • Switch between All and Unread.

  • Choose a notification to go where it points and mark it read. A company that cannot be reached opens the steps to fix it.

  • Choose Mark all as read to clear the count, or View all notifications for the full page.

On the notifications page

  • Filter by All, Unread, a kind, or Archived, and search with Search notifications.

  • Each row has Mark as read or Mark as unread, and Archive.

  • Tick several rows to mark or archive them together. Archive read tidies away everything already read.

  • An archived item can be brought back with Move back to inbox.

Notifications are kept for 90 days. You see the ones for the account you are working in, plus your own sign-in and setup call items.

When a TallyPrime entry fails

If TallyPrime turns an entry down, the person who sent it is told that an entry for that company was not saved, with TallyPrime's reason. Choose Review to open History filtered to failed entries, fix it and send it again. This is in the app only, so check the bell after a busy posting session.

Common questions

How do I get alerts when Tally is not connected?

Balancely tells everyone who can see the company when it cannot be reached, and emails the owner. The message says whether the connector, TallyPrime or the company is the problem.

Will I get a notification when a Tally entry fails?

Yes, in the app. The person who sent the entry is told it was not saved, with the reason, and can fix it from History. This is not emailed.

How do I stop notification emails?

Open Settings, Notifications, and turn off the Email switch for each kind you do not want. Sign-in and security emails stay on, and the owner still gets an email when a payment fails.

Why did I not get an email when my company went offline?

The offline email goes only to the account owner, and at most once every six hours for the same company. Everyone else who can see the company is told in the app.

How long are notifications kept?

For 90 days after the last update, read, unread or archived.
