Post vouchers to TallyPrime from your browser

Create sales and purchase invoices, receipts, payments, notes, journals, ledgers and stock items in TallyPrime from your browser, with repeat saves kept out.

Updated 29 October 2026

The Accounts workspace has a form for each everyday voucher. You fill it in the browser, press Save to TallyPrime, and the voucher is saved straight into the company you chose. It is for accountants and staff who keep the books but are not always at the computer that runs TallyPrime.

Before you start

  • The Balancely Connector is running on the computer where TallyPrime is installed, and that company is connected. See Connecting TallyPrime.

  • TallyPrime is open on that computer with the same company loaded.

  • Your role is owner, admin or accountant. A viewer can read History but cannot save entries.

  • The parties, accounts and stock items you will use already exist in TallyPrime, or you add them first (see below).

Pick the company

Every Accounts page shows the Company bar at the top. Click the company name to switch. Your choice is remembered as you move between pages. Beside the name is its state:

StateMeansWhat to do
ReadyTallyPrime was open when last checked. Entries go straight into your books.Nothing.
Connector not runningBalancely cannot reach the paired computer.Turn the computer on and open the Balancely Connector until it shows Connected.
TallyPrime not openThe connector runs, but TallyPrime is not answering.Open TallyPrime. Then open Help (F1) > Settings > Connectivity > Client/Server configuration, and set TallyPrime is acting as to Both.

Click the state to see the steps, then Check again. You can fill in a form while the company is not ready; only saving needs TallyPrime.

What each form saves in TallyPrime

FormSaved in TallyPrime as
Sales invoiceA Sales voucher with items: customer, sales account, items, quantity, rate and discount %.
Purchase invoiceA Purchase voucher with items, carrying the supplier bill number.
ReceiptA Receipt voucher into a bank or cash account, settling the customer’s open bills you tick.
PaymentA Payment voucher out of a bank or cash account, settling the supplier’s open bills you tick.
Credit noteA Credit Note for goods a customer returned, or an amount only, optionally against the original invoice.
Debit noteA Debit Note for goods you returned to a supplier, or an amount only, optionally against their bill.
JournalA Journal voucher. Debits and credits must be equal.
Bank & cash transferA Contra voucher between two of your own bank or cash accounts.
Orders & notesA Sales Order, Purchase Order, Delivery Note or Receipt Note.
StockA Stock Journal moving goods between godowns, or a new stock item, unit, stock group or godown.
LedgerA new ledger, or changes to an existing one.

The voucher forms have a folded More options card for the narration. Invoices, receipts and payments also have a reference, and most vouchers an Entry type (Invoice type on invoices), where you can pick one of your own voucher types of the same kind. Leave the number empty on a sales invoice and TallyPrime numbers it. If the invoice type numbers itself, TallyPrime uses its own number and keeps yours as the reference.

Save an entry

  1. 1

Open Accounts and choose the form, for example Sales invoice.

  2. 2

Check the company in the Company bar.

  3. 3

Fill in the fields. Party, account and item boxes list names from TallyPrime as you type.

  4. 4

Press Save to TallyPrime. The card shows the voucher number TallyPrime gave it.

  5. 5

Choose Create another, or View history.

On an invoice, Paste from Excel adds many item lines at once (item, quantity, rate, discount %).

How GST is handled

  • Sales and purchase invoices: open the GST section and choose your CGST, SGST and IGST accounts. TallyPrime then works out the tax from each item’s GST rate and the party’s state. Leave them empty for an invoice without GST. The accounts are remembered for each company in this browser.

  • Place of supply is optional. Left empty, a sale uses the customer’s state and a purchase your company’s state from TallyPrime.

  • Customer city and Dispatch city on a sale go on the e-invoice as the Bill To, Ship To and dispatch places.

  • Credit and debit notes: add one line per tax account in the Tax section. For an amount-only note, give the GST rate and HSN or SAC so it appears in your GST return.

  • Stock items and ledgers carry their own GST rate, HSN and GSTIN, set on the Stock and Ledger forms.

A discount line on the whole invoice cannot be used while GST is worked out automatically. Use the Discount % on each item instead.

When a ledger or item is missing

Names must match TallyPrime exactly. If you type a party, account or item that TallyPrime does not have, the save fails and nothing is added. Add it first, then save again:

  • A customer, supplier, bank or expense account: Ledger, tab New ledger. Choose its group (customers under Sundry Debtors, suppliers under Sundry Creditors) and, if needed, the opening balance and GST details. A name already in TallyPrime is refused.

  • A product: Stock, tab New item. Only the name is needed; unit, stock group, HSN code and GST rate are optional. A unit, group or godown that already exists is used as it is.

  • To correct an existing ledger, use Change a ledger. Fields you leave blank stay as they are.

Find your entries in History

History lists everything entered from Accounts, by hand or by import. Search by party or number, and use Filter for the date range, the type of entry or who entered it. How far back it goes depends on your plan.

StatusMeansWhat to do
Saved in TallyPrimeTallyPrime accepted it. The number is shown.Nothing.
SendingBeing saved now.Wait; the page updates itself.
WaitingAn imported entry that goes as soon as the connector can be reached.Open the connector and TallyPrime.
FailedTallyPrime did not accept it. The reason is shown.Choose Fix, correct it and save again.
CancelledCancelled in TallyPrime, or stopped before it was sent.Nothing.

An entry saved by hand while TallyPrime is closed fails at once; save it again once TallyPrime is open.

The details of a failed entry are kept for 14 days so you can fix it. To undo a saved voucher, open it and choose Cancel in TallyPrime. TallyPrime keeps it in the books, struck out, with no amount. Ledgers and stock masters cannot be cancelled from here.

What “never posted twice” means

A save that is repeated, or retried after a failure, never goes in twice, and a sales invoice or supplier bill number TallyPrime already has is refused.

  • Each entry carries its own key. If the answer is lost and you press save again, you get the first result, not a second voucher.

  • Fix and retry sends the same entry again. If TallyPrime already has it, it is not added again.

  • A sales invoice number already used in TallyPrime for that voucher type, or a supplier’s bill number already booked for that supplier, is refused and nothing is added.

A receipt, payment or journal typed in again as a new entry is a new voucher. Check History before entering one a second time.

What happens in TallyPrime

Each save creates one new voucher or master in the company shown in the Company bar, using the ledgers, items and voucher type you chose. Existing vouchers are not edited, except when you choose Cancel in TallyPrime. Only Change a ledger changes a master, and only the fields you fill in. Each entry saved in TallyPrime, and each cancellation, counts towards your plan’s monthly entries.

Common questions

Can I create a sales invoice in Tally online?

Yes. Open Accounts, choose Sales invoice, fill in the customer, sales account and items, and press Save to TallyPrime. TallyPrime must be open with that company on the computer running the connector.

Do I need to sit at the Tally computer to post vouchers?

No. You can work from any browser. The connector and TallyPrime only need to be running on that computer with the right company open.

Will the entry go into Tally twice if I click save again?

No. A repeated save returns the first result, and fixing a failed entry sends the same entry again rather than a new one. A receipt or payment typed in again as a new entry is a new voucher.

Does it calculate GST on the invoice?

Yes, once you choose your GST accounts in the GST section. TallyPrime works out the tax from each item’s GST rate and the party’s state.

What if the party or stock item is not in TallyPrime?

The save fails and nothing is added. Create it on the Ledger or Stock page, then save the entry again.

How do I cancel a voucher I posted by mistake?

Open it in History and choose Cancel in TallyPrime. It stays in the books, struck out, with no amount.
