From a new account to a posted invoice, in about ten minutes

The whole first run, end to end: one setting in TallyPrime, one small download, one pairing code, and a workflow that posts a real invoice.

Most of what follows is done once. After it, every workflow you build reuses the same connection, the same application and the same connector - you never pair a computer twice.

Before you begin

TallyPrime has to be willing to talk. In TallyPrime press F1, open Connectivity, and set it to act as Both. It is off by default, and nothing here works without it. This is the step people skip, and it is the first thing we check when a connection will not come up.

1. Create an application

An application is your automation tool's identity in Balancely: a Client ID and a Secret. Create one from the Applications page, name it after the tool that will use it - "Zapier" or "Our website" - and choose what it may do. The secret is shown once, so paste it somewhere safe.

2. Install the connector

On the computer where TallyPrime runs, download the connector and double-click it. There is no installer and it needs no admin rights. It opens with a six-character pairing code and a status line that says, plainly, whether it can reach TallyPrime.

3. Connect TallyPrime

In the dashboard, open Connections and choose Connect TallyPrime. Give the connection a name, type the pairing code, and pick the company from the list the connector reads live from TallyPrime. From here the connection shows as Online whenever that computer is on and TallyPrime is open.

4. Authorise from your platform

In Zapier, Make or n8n, add a TallyPrime connection with the Client ID and Secret. You land on our approval screen: pick the connection, approve, done. An application can be given access to several connections, and a connection can be shared by several applications - the two are separate on purpose, so you can revoke one without touching the other.

5. Build the workflow

Add a TallyPrime action - Create Sales Invoice is the usual first one - and map the fields. Ledgers and items are read live from your company, so you choose real names rather than typing them. Run it once. The result appears under Usage within a second or two, with the voucher number TallyPrime gave it.

What you have at the end

A computer that can be reached, a company that can be written to, and a tool that is allowed to do it. Every workflow after this starts at step five.
